OIA promote Outdoor Recreation at the heart of COVID-19 recovery

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News , Outdoor News

The Outdoors Industries Association (OIA) have recently begun the process of collaboration with the diverse sector to talk to Government about a White Paper to promote Outdoor Recreation at the heart of recovery.

The OIA has previously backed the Government's stance towards encouraging the public to behave responsibly while exercising outside during the lockdown. The Association is now promoting the benefits of outdoor activities and the key role they can play in the UK recovering from the effects of COVID-19.

This news comes following the encouraging sales in the cycling sector and the announcement made a few days ago that the government is continuing to support this outdoor activity with a huge investment in active commuting. The CEO of OIA, Andrew Denton, hopes that Outdoor stores will see a similar strong surge in two week's time when they can join Bike shops.

Denton said the following of the outdoor recreational sector and the impacts it could have: "Whether it be to build a lean, healthy population, better able shrug off a second wave, or a population that avoids international travel in the next few months to take leisure time in the UK, where families are exposed to UV and build vitamin D outdoors - both known to help stop the spread of COVID-19, or perhaps to go camping in the ‘well ventilated' campsites of Britain!

"Wherever you look the solutions to the crisis appear to play to the strengths of the Outdoor sector, let's work together to promote a life well lived, an active life outdoors, to build a resilient, healthy nation better able to recover and bounce back to the new normal."
