Recruitment can be a difficult process if you don't know where to start. Follow our guide to help make the process as simple as possible. 

Identifying a vacancy

If you are looking to recruit then chances are you have already identified the need for a vacancy to be filled. Make sure you know exactly what the role is that you need filling, and the type of person you are looking for i.e. skills, qualifications, personality.

Prepare job description and person specification

Advertising the vacancy

Attract the best candidates by advertising on industry specific sites like the Experts sites. This will ensure the candidates you attract have a genuine interest in your industry and should reduce the number of innappropriate applications you receive. Short-listing

By using the ActSmart jobs board you should receive applications from high quality candidates. You will need to select as many of these as you think you have time to interview, no more than 3 or 4 a day. Compare the candidates CV to your job description and person specification and select those who best fit.

Arrange interviews

Arrange for your shortlisted candidates to come in for an interview, or take part in a phone interview, and prepare the questions you would like to know about the people and their ability to do the job you advertised for. Make sure you arrange the interviews well enough in advance to give all selected candidates enough time to prepare. 

Conducting an interview

Carry out your interview however you feel most comfortable with. Make sure you take notes from all interviews and collect enough information from all candidates to make an informed decision.
