National Fitness Day is an event organised every year on the 25th September by not-for-profit health body ukactive. The aims of the day involves highlighting the crucial role that physical activity plays across the UK and helping to raise awareness of its importance in helping us lead healthier and active lifestyles.

According to a study undertaken by the World Health Organisation last year the UK is ranked 123rd out of 168 nations for physical inactivity. The average UK adult spends more than twice as long making tea as they do exercising, according to new research commissioned by ukactive.

"Brits spend twice as long making tea per week as exercising"- ukactive

Physical inactivity has been listed as a leading cause of preventable diseases and conditions such as type-2 diabetes, some cancers and osteoporosis. Activities can involve "plank offs", yoga and pilates classes, treadmill challenges, high-street HIIT classes, dance-offs, mass walks and many more. The website even includes an Activity Finder which enables you to type your post code in and take part in events near you!
