Maxxis celebrates 50th anniversary

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News by Maxxis International (UK) Plc

The world’s largest bicycle tyre manufacturer, Maxxis, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in business. Originally starting out as a small Taiwanese bicycle tyre manufacturer in 1967, the Maxxis brand has grown from strength to strength.

Over the last half century the manufacturer has become a global household name and one of the top brands recognised by customers for the high quality tyres that it offers. Today Maxxis is recognised as a top ten global manufacturer, as well as the largest manufacturer of bicycle tyres in the world.

After starting out solely producing bicycle tyres, the tyre giant has extended its product range massively and as a result it has allowed itself to penetrate and dominate in new markets. Maxxis now produces tyres for motorcycles, cars, 4x4s, light trucks, trucks and buses, ATVs, lawn and garden products, race karts, industrial vehicles, and trailers.

Over the last 50 years the demand for its high quality tyres has grown internationally, so much so that the company now distributes its products in over 170 countries worldwide. The manufacturer has a total of 30,000 members of staff around the world ensuring that operations are ran smoothly and customers are receiving the highest quality of service. Maxxis has offices based in Taiwan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Japan, India, Indonesia and Dubai.

Managing director of Maxxis International, Derek McMartin, said: “We are hugely proud of our humble beginnings, our growth and the global success that we have experienced over the last 50 years. At the beginning the aspirations were always to be one of the world’s top tyre manufacturers and to be recognised by the industry as exactly that is fantastic.

“Moving forward, we will continue to strive to grow in the bicycle sector and equally pushing our offering in the road and BMX categories. This year we have already been doing exactly that when we went to the Taipei Bike Show and launched brand new road, mountain bike and BMX tyres which will be available in the UK later this summer. We are committed to designing innovative products in all those sectors and with this in mind, we are heavily investing into our research and development operations, with the goal of opening five research facilities around the world.

“Our existing and futures customers can expect Maxxis to keep producing tyres with the same level of great customer service and top quality.”
