Big brands back Cytech SA

Since launching in South Africa, Cytech technical training has received the backing of major cycling brands and governing bodies.
Developed over the last 25 years, Cytech has come to represent a benchmark in technical know-how and ability recognised worldwide by the cycle trade and public alike.
From as early as January 2014 all major South African importers and distributors of bicycles and bicycle componentry were informed of the intent of Torq Zone Academy to offer Cytech Technical training in South Africa.
After launching later that year, a number of key brands backed the scheme, indicating their full support for Cytech Training in South Africa.
By supporting the Cytech qualifications, importers and distributors are encouraging their retail network to invest in the skills of their bicycle technicians, ensuring that the products are built and maintained to the highest standards, which in turn protects the brands when sold to the end user.
Thanks to the support of these importers, distributors and their brands, Torq Zone Academy have been given contributions in terms of equipment, frames or components for the purpose of being used as training aid.
The following are proud supporters of Cytech South Africa:
- Cape Cycle Systems, Brands: SRAM, Rock Shox, Park Tool
- Cool Heat, Brands: Shimano
- Dragons Sport, Brands: Giant, Santa Cruz
- Omnico, Brands: Cannondale, Fox, GT
- Specialized South Africa
- Scott Sports Africa, Brands: Axis, DT Swiss, Scott
- Cycles Africa, Brands: Cane Creek, Chris King, Manitou, Motorex
Back in April 2014 Torq Zone Academy launched a process with the national training authority, the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations, to have a qualification for bicycle mechanics developed and registered on the South African National Qualifications Framework.
In January 2015 the Torq Zone Academy introduced Cytech Technical training to Mike Bradley, the General Manager of Cycling South Africa. Impressed with the scheme, Cycling South Africa pledged its full support to the efforts of Torq Zone Academy and its efforts to register a National Qualification.
The above mentioned importers/distributors, Cycling South Africa, local bicycle shops, cycling related non-profit organisations and Torq Zone Academy have since had an initial meeting to progress the introduction of a national qualification.
It is expected that the qualification process will be completed by October 2015. Once the qualification has been registered and accreditation has taken place the Academy will offer, through dual certification, both the National Qualification and the Cytech Technical training.
