Safety will be number one factor among shoppers this Christmas according to Maybe* report

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News , Polls & Results

escalatorsMaybe* has gathered 14,000 answers from across the UK to understand what shoppers want from retail over Christmas 2020.

With a potential second national lockdown looming and the ‘rule of six' casting a COVID-shaped shadow over Christmas festivities, retailers are understandably anxious.

The report shows that for 71% of shoppers, it's Christmas as usual. The new compulsory face covering rules have not impacted their Christmas shopping plans.

"Safety is a bigger concern than price this Christmas"

With COVID-19 cases rising and new social distancing measures and restrictions in place, shoppers expect safety measures to be in place.

31% of shoppers cite safety as the number one factor that will determine where they shop over the festive period, so businesses should consider how they can use their social media reach channels to explain the safety
precautions in place.

Price was the second biggest factor, scoring as the main behaviour driver for 28% of people surveyed.

Despite 46% of people feeling safer now face coverings are mandatory, people still have little intention of returning to High Streets and Shopping Centres.

A massive 58% of shoppers plan to do their shopping online and only 30% will shop local.

The biggest concern is for Shopping Centres, with only 12% of those surveyed expecting to shop there for Christmas gifts this year.
