Children's creative summer workshops

Posted on in Business News , Creative News

craftsThe summer holiday can keep your keen crafters away from your store, but running children's workshops may be the answer that you are looking for.

In running workshops for children across the summer, you can open up your store to those crafters with children and to parents looking to entertain their children.

Hunkdory trade sales manager, Claire Hamer, gives her advice on how to run a great kids' workshop with 9 tips for children's summer workshops.

Supervision

Unless your staff have had a DBS check or you want them to get checked ensuring that the parents stay with the children is the best way to go. This also means that you can get the parents involved.

Paper plate puppets

Paper plate puppets is a great workshop to run with children as it is basic and requires minimal supplies. All you need to do is take two paper plates, fold one in half and staple or glue the edge of the folded plate to the non-folded plate. It's just that easy and now you have a paper plate puppet ready to decorate. All you need now are pens, paints, googly eyes and glitter!

Finger painting

Finger painting is a great way to let the children get creative, you can simply get the children to draw around their hand, cut it out and stick it on a sheet of paper that they can then decorate with their fingers to make the leaves of the tree.

Decoupage

This is a great craft that is always a lot of fun. You can get the children to choose a shape, their favourite animal or their initial and their decoupage papers. You can put glue out in small pots and show the children how to tear the paper and watch them create something fantastic.

Card making

You can get some great card making kits or make your own for the day.

Scrapbooking

Running a scrapbooking workshop is a great way to use up all the end of line products or any scraps you have.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a great place to grab inspiration from.

Events

What is happening around you? Are there any fun themes or exhibitions going on during the summer that you could showcase in your craft workshop? It's a great way to get involved with the local community.

Show and tell

A summer end show and tell. It's great for kids to show off their crafts and what better way to do this than hold an end of summer show and tell in your store so the children can see all their hard work from the summer displayed in your shop?
