Government to Introduce ‘Jack's Law' Employment Right

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has announced that it will introduce new Parental Bereavement Leave and Pay Regulations.

Known as “Jack’s Law”, the regulations will introduce a statutory right of two weeks leave for all employees who have lost a child under the age of 18 or suffered a stillbirth from 24 weeks of pregnancy. The regulations will apply for workers from day one of their employment and will come into force on 6th April 2020.

This represents the first of a number of employment reforms that the UK government has committed to. The Employment Bill announced in the Queen’s Speech will introduce further measures and is expected to be introduced in Parliament shortly.
