Bicycle tyre recycling survey

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

The disposal of Bicycle Tyres is a major ecological problem, with up to 250,000 cubic meters being disposed of in landfill each and every year.

tyresSince July 2006, under the EU Landfill Directive, neither whole nor shredded vehicle tyres can be sent to landfill for disposal. However, bicycle are excluded from the Directive and continue to be included in general waste.

The problem of waste tyres is a significant issue for the bicycle retail trade. As an industry linked with environmentally friendly behaviours, being a low carbon, sustainable means of transport there is a clear disconnect between the pro-environmental impacts of cycling, and the potential damaging impact of the need to dispose of a significant component of a bicycle on a regular basis.

To help combat this problem, Velorim are in the process of creating a business to recycle bicycle tyres.
For a small charge Velorim will collect scrapped bicycle tyres, inner tubes and other related rubber products and will then recycle these in an ecological and environmentally friendly manner that can be documented and tracked.

In order to ensure this venture is a success, cycle retailers are being asked to share their experiences of tyre recycling by taking part in a short survey.

Click the button below to take part in the survey.
