Help us to campaign the removal of the £200 reporting threshold for retail crime

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News , Political News

The Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC) are campaigning to have the £200 reporting threshold for retail crime removed.

IRC iconThe IRC is a well-established organisation that brings together like-minded trade associations with interests in the small and independent retail sector. It currently represents c.100,000 independent retailers throughout the UK and provides a lobbying platform for increasing the profile and voice of independent retailing within Government and Parliament. The ACT and ActSmart are key members of the IRC to represent their members.

What is the Retail Crime Threshold?

This is the £200 threshold that determines the response by the police, and theft below this level does not always merit a police visit and offenders can plead guilty by post.

Why is it important to campaign?

There is a bill going through the House of Lords that might be a chance to have this threshold removed, which means all retailers having a better sense of security for theft under £200.
