Almost half of Brits set to enjoy staycation this year

Posted on in Outdoor News

Almost half of Brits enjoy a camping break because it's cheaper or to escape the stress of modern life, according to a survey by Halfords.

The popularity of camping is on the rise with almost half of Brits choosing to have a staycation this year because it is more affordable than holidaying abroad.

The survey also revealed that over half (54%) said exploring the great outdoors is their main motivation for camping, while for 41% camping is the perfect way to spend time with family, and almost a quarter (23%) look forward to getting away from the stresses of modern life and switching off from technology.

Almost 1 in 10 campers say they want to have the biggest tent at the campsite so they can show off to the neighbours. Another 9% want a fire pit, 8% bring own portaloo and 7% decorate their pitch with flags or fairy lights.

"Sales across camping and outdoor leisure were up 45% on April to May last year, and it's no surprise that Brits are choosing to holiday in the UK rather than travelling abroad, which can be expensive and stressful" said: David Howells, Halfords.
