Job Description

Paradise Cycles is looking for another person to join the front of house workshop team. If you have a passion for fixing bikes, talking about bikes, and most importantly, riding bikes, then you’ll definitely fit in, and we want to meet you.

The workshop has been open since October 2015, in a small building on a busy commuter road in East London.

The level of knowledge & quality of work required is fairly high, so the more industry experience and patience you possess the easier you will find the role.

  • The workshop is open 7 days a week, so at least one weekend shift will be necessary from a keyholder.
  • The workshop opens at 8am on weekdays, so the early start is better suited to people local to the shop.
  • Hourly wage is negotiable depending on experience, but our minimum rate is in line with the current UK living wage. Pay is monthly.


We are focused on servicing and repairs with P&A sales as our main business, rather than bike sales, but we do sell a mix of new and refurbished bikes with the limited space we have to do that.

In addition to these areas, keyholder duties involve opening and closing the shop, managing the daily work schedule, communicating clearly and professionally with the other staff, keeping work orders up to date & accurate, booking in deliveries, restocking shelves & displays, making & answering phone calls, and other typical shop keeping tasks.

Our company philosophy is aligned with educational and recycle principles to encourage . This approach requires staff willing to spend time talking with customers about their cycling habits, as a way of troubleshooting mechanical issues, to achieve a better bike fit, and to suggest ways to make their bike more fit for purpose.

Skills/Experience Required

An ideal applicant will have at least 2 years of experience working full time in a typical bike workshop environment, plus the following:

  • Cytech Level 2 preferred. Equivalent qualifications like City & Guilds or lots of "on the job" experience will also be considered, but references will be required.
  • Proficiency in all manner of repairs, and familiarity with all workshop tools. Ideally including hydraulic brakes & all manner of wheel servicing.
  • Retail Sales & Bookings Management experience is important but not essential as it can be learned on the job. We use a couple of systems like an ePOS, web SMS service, and bookings management service to keep track of everything.
  • Strong product knowledge i.e. familiarity with bicycle industry brands & UK suppliers.
  • Cash handling and card transaction experience.
  • Stock control and stock take experience.
  • An ideal candidate should be able to relate to commuter cyclists in as many ways as possible i.e. It would help to have first hand experience of cycling in a city as a primary mode of transport. Lots of our customers have bad experiences with bike theft, altercations with drivers etc.

Any weak areas can be improved upon with training and on the job experience, so our main priority during the application, interview, & trial process is to check that you're aware of the importance of all of the above.
