New Debit Mastercard to launch in August

From early August retailers will begin to see Mastercard's new Debit Mastercard crossing their counters.

Entering the fiercely competitive debit card sector Mastercard hopes to capitalise on its strong position and brand awareness in the credit card market to take a slice of this lucrative industry.

Retailers using ActSmart's preferential card processing scheme with HSBC should now begin receiving details of the charges and processes for handling Debit Mastercard.

HSBC have confirmed they will charge Debit Mastercard rates at the same as those currently in place for Visa Debit. For users of the ActSmart scheme this will be either 17 pence or 16.5 pence per transaction, depending upon individual card turnover arrangements.
