Retailler Budget proposals
Posted on 22 Mar 2010
ActSmart wasted no time in submitting proposals to HMRC Treasury for Wednesday's budget.
The submission, constructed with our partners at the Indpendent Retailers Confederation (IRC) was submitted on 10th March, the day the budget was announced.
We have called for a number of actions we believe the Government can take to improve the situation for specialist retailers. The submission calls for:
- Government pressure to be put upon banks to provide access to finance for small business
- Not to increase VAT to 20 per cent
- Cancel the proposed 1 per cent increase in National Insurance Contributions in 2011
- Not to increase the minimum wage in 2010/11
- Make Small Business Rate Relief automatic for qualifying businesses
Since submitting our proposals Alistair Darling has suggested that his Government has no reason to increase VAT at this stage and the FSB have followed our stance on national insurance with their National Chairman calling for a campaign to freeze the N.I. rise.
The IRC submission has been made on behalf of over 100,000 retailers and incorporates a summary of the ongoing key areas where we are campaigning for greater support for specialist retailers.
The full submission can be read here.
