Third annual Yarn Shop Day hailed a success

Posted on in Business News , Creative News

On Saturday 30th April Yarn Shop Day returned for its third year, with hundreds of retailers taking part.

Launched by leading craft magazines Let's Knit and Let's Get Crafting, Yarn Shop Day is a chance to celebrate what's great about your local bricks-and-mortar yarn store.

Over 200 craft shops signed up to take part in the official Yarn Shop Day 2016.

Millie Furby from The Slipped Stitch in Dorset said: "We had a raffle in aid of a local hospice, goodie bags to the first 20 customers, different special offers each hour, a knitting and crochet surgery and a knit and natter session - it was a fantastic day!"

Caroline Davis, manager of Christine's Wool Shop in Birmingham said: "Yarn Shop Day 2016 was an overwhelming success for Christine's Wool Shop (Cityknits) with people travelling far and wide for the event. The customers were delighted with the goody bags, discounts and free workshops on offer, and having Debbie Bliss and her design team in store was the icing on the cake!"

Wool For Ewe in Aberdeen said: "Thank you to everyone who came to our Yarn Shop Day event today. What an amazing day it has been!"

Shopper Dorothy MacInnes attended Emily Foulds' Yarn Loft in Colne, she said: "I had a fabulous time at Emily Foulds' Yarn Shop Day event. We all knitted sheep slippers, designed by Emma Wright, using Erica Knight's British wool. They are so cute and cosy.

Emma was there to help us and showed us how to put her design together. I am more of a crocheter myself and found the DPNs rather difficult, but with her encouragement, I completed one slipper and the other is almost ready to wear. We all agreed - Yarn Shop Day was a great success."
