Contactless Card Limit Changes

Posted on in Business News

The maximum value for transactions taken using Contactless cards is changing!

From 1st October 2015, Visa, MasterCard and American Express are increasing the limits for accepting payments on their Contactless cards from £20 to £30. As part of this change all Visa Contactless transactions above £15, together with MasterCard and American Express Contactless transactions over £20 will now be authorised.

If you rent a Contactless terminal from us, we'll update it before the change comes into effect and you won't need to take any action. You'll know when it's happened as your customers will automatically be able to pay with their Contactless card for sales between £20 and £30. At the same time all the Contactless transactions you accept above the new floor limits detailed above will now be authorised.

If you own your own Contactless terminals, or rent them from a third party, you'll need to contact your supplier to get them to upgrade your equipment so you meet the new requirements.

If you have any queries regarding this change please contact Global Payments on 0345 702 3344, selecting the option for ‘All Other Enquiries'.
